How To Make Split Pea Soup At Home
Ingredients you’ll need:
- 1 Pound dry split peas
- 6 Cups water
- 2 Cups chicken broth
- 1 Meaty ham bone or 2 ham hocks
- 1 Large onion, chopped
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- 1/4 Teaspoon pepper
- 1 Cup sliced carrot
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 2 or more slices of bacon
- 1/2 Cup light cream
- 2 Tablespoons of butter
Instructions:
- Rinse peas; place in kettle or pot. Add the water, ham bone or hocks, onion, chicken broth, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to boiling; Then reduce heat; Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring often.
- Remove ham bone or hocks and chop the meat off. Discard the bones.
- Return meat to soup; add the chopped carrots and celery.
- Simmer for 30 minutes.
- Cook bacon until crispy. Drain and crumble it.
- Stir bacon, light cream, and butter into soup. Heat through.
- Makes 8 servings. Enjoy.
