How To Make Split Pea Soup At Home

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1 Pound dry split peas
  • 6 Cups water
  • 2 Cups chicken broth
  • 1 Meaty ham bone or 2 ham hocks
  • 1 Large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 Teaspoon pepper
  • 1 Cup sliced carrot
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 or more slices of bacon
  • 1/2 Cup light cream
  • 2 Tablespoons of butter

Instructions:

  1. Rinse peas; place in kettle or pot. Add the water, ham bone or hocks, onion, chicken broth, salt, and pepper.
  2. Bring to boiling; Then reduce heat; Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring often.
  3. Remove ham bone or hocks and chop the meat off. Discard the bones.
  4. Return meat to soup; add the chopped carrots and celery.
  5. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Cook bacon until crispy. Drain and crumble it.
  7. Stir bacon, light cream, and butter into soup. Heat through.
  8. Makes 8 servings. Enjoy.
